At Becker UK, we believe in giving back to the community; therefore, we are delighted to announce our new partnership with Age UK Hull & East Yorkshire (HEY) as proud Amber Infinity sponsors.

 

This independent local charity has been dedicated to improving the lives of the elderly in the local community and across the UK for over 75 years, offering essential services that enable them to lead both fulfilling and independent lives.

 

Supporting a vital cause, Age UK HEY provides a range of invaluable services, including:

 

  • Information & Advice – Helping older adults navigate essential resources and support.
  • Befriending Service – Combating loneliness through meaningful connections.
  • Social Groups – Creating spaces for older individuals to meet, engage, and enjoy activities.
  • Falls Prevention – Offering guidance and training to help reduce the risk of falls.
  • IT Training – Bridging the digital gap to keep older adults connected.
  • Home Support Service – Assisting with daily tasks to help maintain independence.

With increasing demand for these services and limited dedicated funding, fundraising and donations play a crucial role in ensuring Age UK HEY can continue its incredible work.

 

Honouring a Local Legend:

One of the most beloved figures in Hull, Jean Bishop, affectionately known as ‘The Bee Lady,’ spent over 30 years tirelessly fundraising for Age UK HEY. Dressed in her iconic bee costume, she raised more than £125,000 for the charity before passing away at the age of 99 in 2021.

Her dedication earned her a British Empire Medal in 2017, a Pride of Britain award, and she even carried the Olympic torch.

 

To honour Jean’s remarkable legacy, Age UK HEY has officially declared May 13, 2025, as 'Bee Lady Day'. The city will light up in yellow and amber, Hull Trains will run a special Bee Lady Train Day for charity clients, and local schools will participate in the celebrations with children dressing up in bee-themed outfits.

 

Becker UK's proud contribution:

To support this heart-warming initiative, Becker UK is proud to donate the cost of Bee Lady Day T-shirts, which will be worn by Age UK HEY staff and volunteers across the city. These T-shirts will also feature our logo as a symbol of our commitment to this important cause. As a result of our involvement, Becker UK has been invited to become an Amber Infinity Partner of Age UK Hull and East Yorkshire.

 

The event will be widely covered by local news, further raising awareness and encouraging community participation from further afield.

 

We look forward to continuing our support and taking part in future events to help older adults in our community thrive.
